 CONTAINERS: Feature
Leaktight Locking Top and thick-walled puncture-resistant plastic sharps disposal containers with unitized construction
for superior strength.
ONE-HANDED: Vertical sharps drop disposal minimizes excessive handling
and reduces the risks associated with horizontal "mail-box" type disposal.
Once the self-contained screw cap is secured and locked, leakage of fluids during handling, transport and disposal
is virtually eliminated. Containers are available in translucent red and clear. The 1.0, 1.5 and 2.5 gallon sizes
can be used freestanding or with metal stands or metal cabinets. The bulk 3.5 and 6.0 gallon containers are designed
for freestanding use only.
Post Medical has a variety of mounting systems including metal cabinets, metal stands
and metal bands for mounting your Post Medical sharps containment systems.
The
final rule for Occupational Exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens (29 CFR 1910, 1030) states in paragraphs (d)(4)(iii)(A)(2)
and (d)(4)(iii)(A)(3);
|
During use, containers for contaminated sharps shall be:
(i) easily accessible to personnel and located as close as feasible to the immediate area where
sharps are used or can reasonably be anticipated to be found;
(ii) maintained upright throughout use; and
(iii) replaced routinely and not allowed to overfill.
|
When moving containers of contaminated sharps from the area of use, the containers shall
be:
(i) closed immediately prior to removal or replacement to prevent spillage or protrusion of contents
during handling, storage, transport or shipping;
(ii) placed in secondary container if leakage is possible. The second container shall be; (A)
closeable; (B) constructed to contain all contents and prevent leakage during handling, storage, transport or shipping;
and (C) labeled or color coded according to paragraph (g)(1)(i) of this standard.
